Working in Winter Park

Winter Park is built around historic, tree-covered neighbourhoods, and its tree ordinance is among the strictest in the region. Removing a mature tree generally takes a permit and a replacement plan, and on the leafy streets around Rollins College and the old estates even a small job is planned tree by tree. It is also a city of lakes - the Chain of Lakes runs through it, with Virginia, Osceola, Maitland and Mizell all inside or against the town - and the lakefront lots carry the tightest rules of all.

Most Winter Park clearing is therefore selective and careful: clearing undergrowth and invasive growth, taking out dead wood, and opening a building pad or a view line while leaving the canopy that carries the neighbourhood. On the lakefront the view line is usually the point of the job, and it comes out of the tree plan rather than the other way round. Narrow streets and close neighbours mean smaller equipment and tight working hours. We handle land clearing, brush clearing, forestry mulching, brush hogging and grading, and we work to what the city will actually approve. Demolition, when a teardown comes first, is handled by our demolition subcontractors.

Land clearing and site preparation

Typical work in Winter Park

Estate Lot Modernisation

A wooded estate lot. Invasive growth and dead trees come out while most of the canopy stays, and new sight lines opened without compromising privacy.

Lakefront Lot On The Chain

A small lot on the Chain of Lakes, hemmed in by older homes. Selective hand work - undergrowth cleared, a modest view line opened to the water and every mature tree kept.

Teardown And Rebuild In Town

An aging home on a small lot. The house comes down through our demolition subcontractors, then clearing the site within the city setback rules, a heritage oak kept and the work coordinated with the properties on either side.

Heavily Wooded Infill Lot

A small wooded lot near the college. Cleared for a new home while holding the required tree coverage, worked on a narrow street with limited equipment access and strict hours.

Questions about your project

How strict is Winter Park's tree ordinance?

It is one of the tighter ones in the region: permits are needed to remove larger trees, a minimum share of the lot has to stay in tree cover, and replacements are expected for what comes out. We start by mapping the trees, then design a clearing plan that opens the space you need without tripping the ordinance.

What drives the cost of clearing a lot in Winter Park?

Each job is quoted on its own. What changes the number here: how much of the lot can be cleared under the ordinance, how much tree work is involved and whether stumps are ground or left, how much has to be hand-finished, how tight the access is on a narrow street, and whether material is mulched in place or hauled out. Describe the lot and the tree plan and we will quote it - the estimate is free and puts you under nothing.

Can you work in Winter Park's historic neighbourhoods?

Yes. Work near the older estates and designated historic streets is careful and often reviewed, so we plan around kept trees and neighbouring houses and keep the site tidy and quiet. It takes longer, but it is routine for us.

Can you demolish a house before clearing the lot?

Yes - the demolition is done by our demolition subcontractors, with the permits procured where they are needed. We clear on either side of it: selectively around any trees being kept, then grade the lot ready to build.

Do you work on smaller in-town lots?

Yes - much of the work here is a fraction of an acre on a tight street. Small jobs are welcome, and the equipment and working hours are matched to the street so neighbours are not disturbed.

Can you clear lakefront properties on Winter Park's Chain of Lakes?

Yes - lots on Lakes Virginia, Osceola, Maitland and Mizell are some of the most careful work we do. Most of them are small and hemmed in by older homes, so it is hand work: undergrowth cleared, a modest view line opened toward the water and every mature tree kept unless the owner has approval to take it.
